Doonbeg birds



A nice day around Doonbeg bay. Plenty of Whimbrel resting up on the beach , Stonechat are feeding young, and a male Shelduck was on patrol ,perhaps a family is in a burrow nearby.

A Grashopper Warbler  shrilling song from the Brambles. These birds stay in the cover ,very rarely are they seen out in the open and are difficult to find.
The change of weather has finally brought the warblers

Scenes of Lickeen

Just over the hill from my home,and into the valley thats separates Ennistymon and Kilfanora.
Lickeen lake is a great way to spend an hour in the evening listening for warblers and Thrush also watching migrating Whimbrel finding roost around the shores. And home for tea.

Clahane spring birdlife

Clahane seems to be getting over its drought of birds. Several species of wader including Purple Sandpipers,Whimbrel,Turnstone,Ringed Plover and Oystercatcher go through the washed up seaweed.
White Wagtail ,Pied Wagtail and Rock pipit feed on the abundance of flys.Stonechat and Linnet were in the fields and a summer plumage Great northern diver was in the sea

Quite a few White Wagtails are feeding up along the shores at Clahane. Today i had a count of 13 of these smart looking Wags.Flighty birds to photo,but with help of a sea wall ,good light and ninja stealth it becomes a challenge.

Willow Warblers




Plenty of Willow Warblers singing their arrival  around Lickeen Lake.
 Songs of other birds such as Blackcap,Chiffchaff,Wren,Reed Bunting and Pheasant were heard.

A pair of Dippers were busy at the Falls nest building and defending there territory from other Dippers and birds, hassling Blackbirds they mistake for there own kind. Good to watch
