Northern Shovelers

Five pair of Shoveler Duck were at Burrin Pond , a perfect little lake for them that they visit every winter and a place where you can get close enough for a photo.

Burrin Pond near Newquay

Female Shoveler
I took a midday break from the goose chase and checked the pond near Newquay, Grey Herons were courting in their nests around the ponds, Shoveler, Wigeon and Whooper Swans were being harassed by the feisty Coots that were claiming their nesting territory.

The north coast of Clare`s waterways have a wide selection of birds that use this peaceful area , Numbers of Shovelar and other ducks on the ponds , Red breasted Merganzers habit the quiet calm saltwaters , Little Egrets habit the edges of both looking for food
