Clahane flurry of birds

 Its was  a spring day with a flurry of birds that were passing through.

Plenty Whimbrels coming up the Clahane coast followed by White Wagtail, a few extra Rock Pipits, Wheatear, a couple of Common Sandpipers, they all seemed to arrive and leave together.

 The tide was very high covering the reefs of Clahane with water .

Over in the corner a Common Sandpiper was on the seaweed dump close enough to photo from the car.

Adult Arctic Tern -Clahane

 In the morning I dropped in at Clahane for a hours birdwatch before work.
Delighted to see a Adult Arctic Tern resting up on the reef below the steps with Black headed Gulls.
The Common Sandpiper was still present as were a few Curlew and 30+ Oystercatcher as were the growing numbers of Kelp fly eating road birds(Pied Wag, Rock&Meadow Pipits , Wheatears and Starlings)

A single Common Sandpiper was along the  high tide shoreline of Clahane .

A day or so ago Clahane was quite of birdlife apart from the usuals.
An overnight storm with heavy rain wind and lightning passed from the Atlantic over the country.
I like to visit Clahane and Liscannor for birds after these storms.
The high tide encloses the kelp flies high on the shoreline , Gulls feed in the sea wash and seaweed while numbers of Swallows and House Martins hawk along the road and high tide mark.
Wagtails both Pied and Grey have their young here to feed. Juvenile Wheatears and Linnets are now being seen here ,as so was a Common Sandpiper.

Common Sandipers

Four Common Sandpipers were  moving around the shores of Clahane , small and flighty , they have a massive natural instinct for danger awareness , they seem to know where you are .... before you do.

Clahane Shorebirds

 Its was nice to spend a bit of time at my local patch ,
Shorebirds like Greenshank ,Common Sandpipers ,Redshank ,Turnstone and Golden Plover are arriving along the coast .
A Mediteranean Gull was roosting up on the hightide with Common ,Black-headed and Herring Gulls
A pair of Ravens passed through along the cliff range and a Sparrowhawk passed low over the seasweed up the cliff and off over the fields hunting.
It wouldnt be Clahane without a few Rock Pipits

 

Common Sandpiper -Lough Bunny

I came across this Common Sandpiper perched up on a rock on the shoreline of Lough Bunny.
The bird seemed quite scruffy and was maybe in moult.

 Today i went somewhere new, to a small Lough in Tipparary to try and find a Black necked Grebe,

A host of birds were here, Grebes,Ducks,Gulls,Sandpipers,Lapwing,Coots, Moorhens and all were with young ,making it a very busy pond, Wild Mint grows all over giving off sent in the heat of the day,Dragonflys and Damselflys haunt the reeds, and a Buzzard and a Jay where at the Fairy fort......
