Burren Spotted Flycatchers

 A small corner of woodland off a limestone path within the Burren lands near Carron I came a cross a pair of Spotted Flycatchers in an ideal habitat. Somewhere around the back of a bush they were feeding young. As usual they return to a favored perch and give good views.

As it enters summer and and a higher average temperature things begin to Fly.

DragonFlys and Damselflies hatch , Banded Demoiselles can be seen among Irish yellow Iris,

Spotted Flycatchers pick flys from the air.

Butterflies such as the Brimstone can now be seen

Spotted Flycatcher - Moanreel wood

Not many reports of Spotted Flycatcher within the county yet this spring so I was happy to find one in Moanreel wood next to my home, sharing the same Tree as a Juvenile Treecreeper

Loop Head, Spot Flys and Deja vu

Sunday I made the 1 hour drive back down to Loop Head in hope of  finding some birds with the steady Easterly winds blowing. In the Willows opposite Gibsons The 2 Yellow-browed Warblers were calling and 1 made a brief show but they stayed hidden ...Deja vu ...it was the same as situation as on friday, same Willows ,same time of day,same birds. A Spotted Flycatcher was in the trees opposite.
At the Lighthouse hundreds of Meadow pipits ,lots of Wheatear,Reed Buntings and a Spotted Flycatcher.
The last of the flowering  Sea Aster gave a sense of Autumn.

Spotted Flycatchers at Home

A pair of Spotted Flycatchers flit back and for their favoured perches picking insects in the small wood next to my home. Nice garden tick, and i think they are nesting nearby...why?...because they are holding insects in the bill..

Spotted Flycatchers have returned to Inchiquin bridge. A woodland river with plenty of flies is always a good place to look for these summer visitors.
