PIne Marten at Home

 Since discovering that we had a Pine Marten visiting our garden this winter I was overjoyed..

A lockdown project for myself, similar to the Owls back in spring.

 I have been putting out some chopped Apples, Rasberry Jam & Peanut butter  (It does like Cinnamon Bagels) and setting up the Trail Camera at different locations hoping for a good angle.

 You can only try to film Rare Wild Animals at night.

But if you try sometimes you just might find you get what you need!

Pine Marten and my garden Log

 So a week ago I found out I had a Pine Marten visiting my garden.

 I chanced my arm putting out a few peanut butter, peanuts and rasberry jam treat along the log in my garden. The weather during the week was awful, but the treats were being taken..

On clearer nights I put out the Trail Camera in a different spot each night to get a few angles of this fine animal that really does seem to be at home on the Log.

A Pine Marten in my Garden

I was discussing with my young lad as to what might come too and around the bird feeder at night.

So we decided to put a trail cam up...a few Male Cats were around but at 5;20 a stunning Pine Marten comes in for about an hour and Ive found out who has been attacking the food bins.

Roadkill

I found this Pine Marten that had just been hit by a car, I put it in the boot of the car with hope i could save it, but it had died by the time i got home.
My boy was very taken by this beautiful creature . Education works in strange ways, i hope one day he gets to see a Pine Marten alive.

Its just not an everyday thing, to see a Pine Marten, but when a friend says that he has one wintering in an old caravan up in the forestry, you just have to go and check it out.....and Wow.
It really is a privilage to be this close to such an elusive wild animal.
