Osprey - Lahinch day 19

 I was making my way back toward Ennistymon from Liscannor, the Osprey caught my eye again hovering over the water near the castle.

 I stopped for a watch as it moved out over the bridge and out of sight. I turned the car around and headed for Lahinch bridge just round the corner and there it was hunting the river , again I pulled over and got this fly by as she went back over the bridge into the marsh

 Its been a good few days for this Osprey on Lahinch Marsh

Its seems highly successful at catching Mullet and Ive seen it on a few occasions over 3 days feeding and carrying fish.

 A call came through from my friend Geoff to say he has a distant Osprey on Lahinch marsh from our corner that we view from.

Jeez, Ill be an hour., But an Osprey is not to be missed around your home patches.

It stayed,,circling the whole Marsh river system all the way upto Ennistymon sometimes out of sight , but always returning for another lap.

It landed on a sandbank where it met a  Hooded Crow, a Peregrine Falcon came in low so fast and buzzed them just as I was ending my video

It returned caught a fish a slowly lifted over toward Kilshanny.

The Ludo Jan 2024

 I love to come into the Ludo NP in the Ria Formosa , every time I come it shares a wildlife moment me.

A fantastic place to get close to water birds and miles of good walking in predominantly good weather.

Flamongos, |Spoonbill, Avocet, Black winged Stilt, Black tailed Godwits, Dunlin, Sanderling , Common Sandpiper and Caspain Terns.

 Raptors were here too with Osprey, Booted Eagles, Marsh Harriers and Peregrine all seen within the walk.

Pochard, Pintail, Shovelar and Gadwall made up the ducks and a I found a 1st winter Red-rumped Swallow that has overstayed hawking the pond with Crag Martins

Quinto do Lago , Algarve

On arriving at 8am at the carpark on Ayrton Senna avenue , we were straight into a fishing Osprey and a Kingfisher at the main lake.
Along the track round the Quinto do Lago lakes we saw Spoonbills, Cormorants, Egrets, Redshank, Bluethroat and Black Redstarts
 Caspain Terns were in the air over the open waters
At the Soa Lourenco bird hide we saw Little Bittern, Purple Swamphen, Glossy Ibis, Pintail , Gadwall, and a few Tufted Duck
Azure winged Magpies House Sparrows and Hoopoes were abundant.

The Osprey has now been at Lahinch marsh for 19 days. The bird seems to be comfortable here ,Its a quiet stretch of river and marsh with lots of Mullet and high posts. Hopefully the marsh has given this juvenile bird a good start.
My three year old girl also came today to see...Fantastic

Osprey 3rd day present

The Osprey was again present at Lahinch marsh for the 3rd day.
With this bird only 5 minutes from home, an early visit to beat the dog walkers was important
The sun came out for 2 minutes and after crawling 400m through wet dune grass the bird showed well on the posts for me for 2 hours.What a start to the day, ill now have to be happy with that

A return in the morning to Lahinch marsh with hope of catching up with the Osprey again . After a short wait around the Osprey made an entrance and was hunting for fish.The bird gave good views from distance.
To watch an Osprey fish is one of those wildlife spectacles one hopes to see in a lifetime.

An Osprey graced the marsh down at Lahinch . A very dull grey evening , but the bird showed well ,perching on high posts,circling the marsh ,and making swoops on the water surface after Mullet, it was late and the bird moved off to roost....special that was.
