Loop Head Seabirds

 Early morning and a nice day had me walking Loop Head watching the Seabirds

I was the only person on the headland with the noises and smells of the Seabird colony. I found myself in a position to get some great views of Razorbills and Guillemots, a few Puffin were on the water below the headland.

The seabird colony at Loop Head seems to be thriving.

Large numbers of Guillemot pack the ledges and the sea below.

Some Razorbills were higher up in more peaceful areas of the Cliff face.

Its been a few months now since I was down at the headland.

I took a walk from the lighthouse area towards the Fodry.

A few juvenile Kittiwakes and Guillemots are still on the cliff faces.

Rafts of Guillemots were out on the water and Gulls were patrolling for a meal.

While out walking the kids along Claddagh beach,Galway i came across this tired out Guillemot in the shallows.
It reminded me of when I was around 10 years old (1980) living in west Wales. I would cycle the 3 miles to help at the Oiled bird rescue centre in West Williamston ,Pembrokeshire.Oiled birds in them days were a common place and I can remember the baths at Lower house farm full of Giullys, Razorbills and Shags.

Loop Head was thick in Sea Thrift ,the pink flower covered the headland.
 Thousands of Guillemot and Razorbill fill the ocean and cliffs.

It was good to be at sea , I tend to function better. Off the Aran island , plenty of Guillemots, Shags ,Black guiellmots and Kittiwake, we saw 3 Great skua and 2 Pomarine skua which was a bonus  , Dusty the  Dolphin was in Doolin harbour

Six hours on an Island, Four hours spent in driving rain and wind with no shelter....no-one said the sun shines every day!, sometimes this is the nature of what i enjoy.
Still the first hour or so i managed to get a few photos of the Seabirds.

Summers day at Loop head, a few late breeding Guillemots on the cliffs, plenty of adult and Juvenile gulls, young Herring gulls being quite easy to approch
