Five Tern Day
At the very South of Lady Island Lake, where the lake almost meets the sea, there is a cut in the dunes where some of the Terns that breed on the Lakes` Islands cross to the open sea to go foraging for fish.
The Terns approach in different ways and directions as they pass by at some speed, makes getting the flight shots a challenge.
I came here hoping to see Roseate Terns (which was successful) and managed to see all 5 of our breeding Terns at this site within the hour
Roseate Tern , Arctic Tern, Common Tern, Little Tern and Sandwich Tern

Thats a Good hour!

White winged Black Tern -Our Ladys Island.
Lady Island Lake for a weekends camping with kids and a spot of birdwatching.
On arrival at 8pm friday eve I quickly stopped at the Lake on route to St Margrets campsite and was greeted by a White winged Tern that was on the deck resting up on the waters edge of a very busy breeding Tern colony.
We walked around the Island to the sounds of Terns in the air and a flock of Knot joined the Black tailed Godwits to roost in the shallows .
The White winged Black Tern was there in the morning and was busy feeding on flys over the 1st island

Great Black-backed Gull eats Sandwitch Tern
I was sat watching and listening to the Terns at Lady Island Lake , Wexford
A Great Black-backed Gull flys in -proceeds to kill and eat a juvenile Sandwitch Tern.
The best bits were not photographed as views were so much better in the scope.
