An Iceland Gull for May at Clahane

The shores along Lahinch bay and Clahane still had good numbers of Gulls over the last few days.

A lot of  Herring Gulls, Black headed Gulls, Common Gulls and Kittiwake and Whimbrel were picked flies from the seaweed and I was surprised to find an Iceland Gull in the month of May among them.

Iceland Gull. As the weather changes

The morning was clear and the tide was approaching high.
As I passed Lahinch on my way south along the coast a low heavy sea mist came in.
It was now wet with a stiff breeze and a real winter feeling.
I passed Quilty on the road to Seafield.
Plenty of Gulls were in the air and around the hightide wash,
This Iceland Gull popped up on the wall with a few Herring Gulls

Big Gull movement

I parked the Car along the seafront road between Quilty and Seafield and watched the Big Gull movement from the wall.
Plenty of Iceland Gulls and Glaucous Gulls were among the Great Black backed, Herring and Common Gull that were lingering in the wind along this straight of coast searching the high tide line.

Iceland Gull on Lahinch reefs

The days during and after late winter storms is always worth checking through the local seafront  for scarce gulls.
Today an Iceland Gull was resting on the reefs below Lahinch town.

Iceland Gulls at the harbour

At Liscannor harbour.
Three Iceland Gulls have come south from high arctic areas in search of shelter from the rough conditions
They`ve joined local Gulls to roost and  forage along the harbour mouth and reefs.

Iceland Gulls at Lahinch shoreline

A few mixed  Iceland Gulls are still soaring back and forth in the wind along the shorelines of Lahinch sea-front picking scraps from the seaweed and other harrassing other Gulls.
All together I saw 4 different individuals, there maybe a few more as they mix around the bay its hard to keep track of which one is which.
